What Really Matters...

"By making art, you will be recording what you are living through and what you are learning about it. A drawing and a sentence or two in a sketchbook turn those everyday moments into something significant. Your art will set a frame around it and give you perspective on what really matters."

I came across a book called "Art before Breakfast" (A billion ways to be more creative no matter how busy you are), by Danny Gregory. It was in my local library, which anyone who knows me knows how much I love the library. The quote above is from a sentence he wrote at the beginning of the book that I loved. I will probably write a few more as I continue to read the book. So far I'm enjoying the book and if nothing else it is a good reminder to what really matters!

Blank...

Living far away from those you enjoy spending time with can sometimes be a challenge to stay connected. One of my dear friends is always coming up with really neat ideas to continue to reconnect with each other. The last thing we did since we both are bloggers, is to participate in a cooperative blog. We each came up with a set of topics, then we decided how often we wanted to blog together, then she put it on the calendar as reminders. That was fun because it gave me things to think about that I might other wise not. And I enjoyed sharing her perspective on the subjects too. Now her newest idea is to do a cooperative art journal ( we have done our own as well and she even hand made this one for me) and exchange them periodically either in person if we are so lucky to get together or by mail. Then we would add something to the others journal and exchange again until it is full. But I found myself, as it always has been, intimidated by the blank page and the ideas of what I want to do with it. But with this awareness I am trying to let that go and just "flow" with the process. So I find myself a tiny bit excited to watch it all unfold.

Perspective...

"Some see a weed, some see a wish."

Isn't is amazing how something stays the same but when you change your perspective it can looks so different!

Collage...

For some reason I'm feeling like I need to start a new collage. It just feel like I need to finish out my year with a new perspective. Why wait until the new year for a new vision? I've always loved collaging. I remember one time I was collaging and two of my children really liked the idea and started participating with me and we all sat at my big dinning room table and just cut pictures and words for hours and created a really fun memory!

Step away...

Sometimes it helps to step away from what your doing to gain perspective and regain your enthusiasm. It's hard when your right in the middle of it all to stop and completely do something different, but it's a good practice to have ~ to put that pause in your week and just step away...

Connecting...

I had a friend suggest I reach out to someone in my life that I feel has kept themselves very emotionally distant from me, but maybe I should look a little closer at my own actions. Maybe I'm not trying as hard as I could to be emotional connected to them. So I will ponder the suggest because sometimes another's perspective is clearer then mine.

Distractions...

It's a constant battle to fight all the distractions, like TV, facebook, researching, doing things not on my list etc. etc etc. I frustrate myself sometimes when I don't get the things I NEED or really WANT to work on. I'm just very tired today so my perspective is a little distorted. It's probable not as bad as it seems but it is something I need to keep a constant eye on.

Perspective...

When I saw this picture I wasn't quit sure what it was. But it got me to thinking about perspective and when i can't figure out something in my life maybe I should look at it from a different angle. Use a different approach or step back and find a new way to see. When my kids were little there was a book I got out of the library and it would have pictures in it like this one and you had to guess what it was. Sometimes that's all it takes is a change in perspective.
