What's your Favorite Season...

My favorite season has always been fall. I love the vibrant colors and the leaves as they flutter down covering the ground. I have a slight obsession with leaves and collecting them is something I look forward to and it brings joy to my soul. Then fall leads into winter which over the years I have come to appreciate the silhouette of the trees against the beautiful sky as the trees lay dormant. I'm not fond of the cold weather and I use to dread the coming of the early darkness. But I know it's only temporary and then I have the spring to look forward too. I love something in each season, but fall will always hold a special place!

Rhythm...

...In the relentless busyness of modern life, we have lost the rhythm between work and rest.

All life requires a rhythm of rest. There is rhythm in our waking activity and the body's need for sleep. There is a rhythm in the way day dissolves into night, and night into morning. there is a rhythm as the active growth of spring and summer is quieted by the necessary dormancy of fall and winter. There is a tidal rhythm, a deep eternal conversation between the land and the great sea. In our bodies, the heart perceptibly rests after each life-giving beat; the lungs rest between the exhale and the inhale.

Embers...

Something about this cool fall weather, I just want to sit in front of a fire and stare at the embers. I don't know what it is about embers that are so mesmerizing. I could just sit there for hours looking into the fire. And it's always more fun to hang our with family or friends around the fire ~ talking, sharing laughter, eating a meal and just enjoying the company of each other!

Again...

" Fall has always been my favorite season. The time when everything bursts with its last beauty, as if nature had been saving up all year for the grand finale."
Lauren DeStefano

I know, I am talking about fall again and I probable will again soon, but I came across this quote and I just loved it!!! Every time I'm out walking I can't help myself and I come home with leaves I'v picked up and need to dry. This fall is no different... in my house you will find dried leaves just about everywhere.

Tease...

The last couple of days the weather has given us "a tease of fall." It has been more then delightful and exciting to know my favorite season is coming. The leaves will be changing color and dancing as they flutter down to the ground. The weather offers relief from the heat and it will be time to take down my favorite sweater and shaw from the closet and watch the seasons change. I can't wait!!!

Scary...

"Letting go is scary. It's a free fall, an act of surrender."
"We're not use to letting go. We're used to hanging on for dear life. We hang on for lots of reasons."
"We're simply afraid of the free fall, afraid of coming alive as ourselves."
"Letting go frees up your energy and your attention. In the open field of surrender lie the seeds of new possibilities."
Daphne Rose Kingma

In my process of letting go of my house, these are all good things I need to keep remembering. And letting go is not something that I only do once, it is part of life! When I'm done with this process there will be another and another. Each bringing me to a deeper sense of wonder and possibilities for my life. But as I stand in the midst of the emotions, I have a hard time seeing all that can and will be. But I am grateful to be surrounded by people that can see what I can not and one day I will look back and gaze upon the vision they knew was possible.

Season...

I love this picture and didn't really have anything to go with it other then "noting" the JOY it brings me. Since fall in my favorite season, there are never enough picture, painting, real life memories that I grow tired of seeing, when they pertain to fall. Hope it brings a smile to your heart and lightens you day as it has mine.

My Favorite...

AHHHHHH... It's my favorite time of year again ~ FALL!

I saw yesterday on http://happsters.com/ an idea called the "Fall Bucket list" ~ how cool it that!  I do love making "lists", so why not make one for one of my favorite things ~ . So here it is, and as any list, to be continued...

Nancy's Fall Bucket List
Picnic
Collect leaves
Take more hikes
Make warm soups
Make/Bake all things pumpkin
Wrap myself in a handmade shaw
Open all the windows and invite Fall in
Pick out a pumpkin...

Jumping ahead...

When I saw these leaves my mind jumped ahead and was anxious for the fall season. There are elements I enjoy about each season and I don't want to loose what's in front of me right now, looking for what's to come. A colorful reminder to stay in the "present moment."

Breathing Space...

Trust ~Surrender~Allow

Today I am allowing my mind and body freedom to "just be" and to breath into this space, to embrace the beauty around me: my children, my home where love flows freely, the change in seasons and the unknown that has become my constant companion

Almost missed...

A tree outside my back door is in full color and it happened when I wasn't looking. I had a busy couple of weeks and didn't really get outside. When I finally did I was welcomed with this magnificent tree. The photo doesn't express the magnitude of it's beauty and because it is so close it really is a show stopper. But it was a good reminder of what happens when I'm not present even in the busy moments of my life. I have lived in my house for twenty years and look forward to the fall color display every year. This year I almost missed it... Whew

It's beginning to look a lot like fall...

Some of my favorite things:

Mums
Pumpkins
Crisp fall air
Open Windows
Leaves changing color
Acorns crunching under my shoe
New Harvest of vegetables planted

Experiencing each in the present moment with family and friends - is the BEST!
