Music

"Everything in the Universe has a rhythm, everything dances."
Maya Angelou

When I was a teenager I use to play the guitar and write music. It was therapeutic for me during that time of my life. I haven't played in years and never really thought of myself as a music lover, but I think I am, more then I give myself credit for. Yesterday my daughter showed me how to make a playlist on YouTube and we had so much fun gathering old and new songs. I'm excited to have music at my fingertips and be able to sing and even dance if it moves me. So after being enveloped in music most of the day, I realized that it still has much to offer me. Providing good memories, creating new ones, a reason to smile and a reason to dance!

Park...

A nice day outside plus time plus my daughter up earlier than expected equals a walk in a new park. We decided to find something that wasn't too far from home but we wanted to find somewhere new to explore. We found a park that didn't have a lot of wooded trails but it did have a really nice open trail that my daughter felt more comfortable to go jogging on some time. Then it was time to head home to make breakfast for dinner... Yummy!

Movie...

Someone gave my daughter a movie to watch called "About Time", so one night I decided to watch it. It has now become one of my favorite movies and one I would have no problem watching again. I won't give you any hints only that it is just a "happy" movie. The celebration of the present moment is the ending theme. I'm so glad I got a chance to watch a movie I probable might never have picked myself.

Hugs...

"...hugging is a powerful way to transfer energy to another person, because the two people's auras merge for that brief moment of a hug."
Kelly A Turner, Ph.D
Radical Remission pg. 70

My daughter made this sign one day when she was hanging out with friends. She said that was a fun and interesting day. Everyone reacts so different when offered the opportunity for a "free hug."
Go HUG someone today and feel the transfer of energy!

Cooking...

"If you give a man a fish he feed him for a day. If you teach a man to fish you feed him for a lifetime."
Chinese Proverb

Two of my children are really beginning to enjoy the "joy" of cooking. My middle son loves to bake and come up with interesting sandwiches as well as have a creative opinion about our dinners together. My daughter surprised me the other day when I came home and discovered she had "made up" a recipe and it was delicious. So delicious, that we made the pancakes when my sister came to visit and she wrote the recipe down to take home with her. Plus my daughter has been helping make dinner the last few nights and it is really fun to hang out together with a common goal of "good eats." Always a joy to watch my children flourish, change and grow.

Gingerbread...

For many many years I baked gingerbread for the holidays and for those years my kids knew the house would smell like gingerbread for months. But this year is the first time I didn't bake any for anyone! So as the holidays came and went my daughter started craving gingerbread. So tonight after dinner I finally made her and my son a small batch of cookies. Oh the memories...

Change...

"Don't be afraid to change. You may lose something good, but you may gain something better."

It's easy to stay comfortable. I have a friend who says her daughter sees life as " all change is bad" and sometimes for me it feels that way. It's a risk that if I allow myself to be bigger and different then I've ever know I may just surprise myself.

A Ring...

This ring was given to me by a dear friend over twenty five years ago. It use to be her ring and she offered it to me at a point of transition in my life - a new beginning. It holds great love and sentiment, so it is only appropriate that I pass it down to my daughter as she trail blazes her way to find the joy, adventures and new beginnings that are right for her life.

Food...

I LOVE food, I really do! I love to eat it, taste it, smell it, cook it, shop for it, look at it, read about it, talk about it and share it. The other day my daughter just wanted to get out of the house so we went to a the store to return something and ended up wandering in the food isles for two hours! It was a store I don't shop at much so it was fun to see the new things or just items I didn't realize they had.

Hugs...

Touch is very important to the human experience and giving hugs ~ a lingering hug is awesome. I have a sign in my house that my daughter wrote one time when she was out with friends "free hugs." Have you given a hug today?

Shopping...

Grocery shopping ~ I LOVE!  Any other kind of shopping ~ not so much!  I have such a hard time shopping for things. And when it comes time to think of a birthday/ Christmas gift, it's near impossible for me to decide. I love making thing for people, but even that's hard for me to decide on what to make. Having a sweet daughter who loves fashion and shopping works wonders. She, like her dad have that knack for finding just the right something, for that special someone, with very little effort. So she and I go out together and within a few minutes have the perfect gift. She's awesome!!!!

My Baby...

Another birthday is upon us. My baby turns eighteen today! The passing years leave me in awe of how fast it seems to go by. My daughter has grown to a wonderful young woman. She loves life and is so funny and adventurous. Who knew when I named her it would not even begin to encompass all that she is. I look forward to watching her life continue to unfold and will be forever grateful I'm available to be a participant in her life.

Happy Birthday My "Lovey"... Love Mom
