It's in the Present Moments...


Today while my soul aches with grief, I sit outside among the trees, the warmth of the sun, the birds and mother nature. She gently reminds me to stay in the present moment and gather the smallest of moments that can drift by without notice and allow them to soften the sharp edges.

A friends shared tears and laughter
A small package of thoughtfulness
A meal offered and shared
A welcoming place to be
Animals with unconditional love
Quiet time with healing space
A car taken care of and safe to travel
Projects to work on, made with loving hands and heart 
Surrounded with art that speaks and soothes
and...human kindness that connects us all.

A Memory...

    When I was reviewing my memories and there are a lot that is missing and a lot that has made an impact, but the one that kept resurfacing was a neighbor I had named Mr. Roach. I lived in Cleveland Ohio at the time and I was somewhere between the ages of 8 and 10. He lived a couple house down from ours and it was such a wonderful place to be. My mother didn't bother me about going over there and it was never what he did or said but I remember how he made me feel. Those years we lived in that house were rough for me. I don't think rougher than later years but it felt like it because of how young I was. I remember wanting/trying to take my life at one time. I don't need to relive those memories, but Mr. Roach was a light in my darkness. He was just a kind older man, guessing probably around 70 or 80 years old. When your young the old look at lot older than when you view them through the eyes of aging.
     He always had a stash of mallow cups that he shared and would listen to and tell me stories of his life. He had a sense of humor too. Once he told me the story of how he took his glass eye out when someone told him to keep his eye on the ball ( he was playing pool in his youth) and then he described their reaction. Most of all I remember his loving-kindness, not for anything particular he said or did, but His presence in my life I have never forgotten. In my later years when things were not really any better at home, I always wished I had a Mr. Roach to just hang out with, but I never had that kind of experience again in my childhood. So it is a treasure that I hold in my heart and it drives me to provide that same feeling to children whether my own or not... I hope they always remember how I made them feel!

Kindness...


Today while on my break during work, I was sitting in the back seat of my car in the parking lot, eating my lunch and a little while later a lady parked a few spaces beside me. When she got out of her car she stopped for a minute and noticed me sitting in the back seat. I'm not sure what she thought or was going through her mind when she saw me, ( I didn't think I looked too unusual) but she asked if I was alright. I told her I was good, and I was just on break from work. But thanked her, and then thought how kind it was of her to check on me "just in case."

Seeds...


I came across this plant today growing in a field and it got me to thinking. A bird probable dropped a seed and an unusual plant grew in an unusual place. So I thought when we as people plant seeds of hope, love, kindness, generosity, or peace out in our world... you never know what or where something may grow from that seed.

Showers...


"Expect the unexpected"

Yesterday brought me showers of goodness. I was out doing a job for someone and all day it just happened - goodness dropping all around me. I keep a journal of random everyday goodness and I had a lot to write yesterday. It is the little things that stand out ~  money saved, a check that came, kindness offered ~ all unexpected. And the day ended with a beautiful shower of snow. I see that as awesome too because it was picture perfect, causing no hazards and I was able to go out today and do what I needed to get done.
